As senior leaders—heading development, brand, and donor operations—we drove a multi-year growth strategy that aligned a 45-person team and positioned the organization for long-term success.

The Challenge
After 42 years of steady growth, Leadership Institute founder Morton Blackwell recognized that 2022 was the pivotal moment to dramatically expand the organization. With philosophical divides between right and left wider than ever before and political contests increasingly narrow, the mission to train conservative leaders had never been more critical.
The Approach
While leading the fundraising efforts for the Leadership Institute, John, Yana, and Mitch designed and executed a comprehensive three-year campaign called “Leaders for America”—an ambitious initiative aimed to train 89,000+ principled conservative leaders ahead of the 2024 elections. To achieve this, we overhauled donor development systems, significantly expanded the major donor community, and introduced data-driven tools to measure both quantitative growth and qualitative impact.
The Results
The Leadership Institute not only met but exceeded its ambitious goals. By implementing systems designed to scale without compromising principles, the organization raised a record $134 million in just three years while significantly expanding its impact. Most importantly, the Leadership Institute is now better positioned than ever to achieve its mission of preparing conservative leaders for America’s future.

A Partnership Forged Through Transformation
John Davis and Yana Myaskovskaya first met in 2014 while working at the Leadership Institute, a 45-year-old nonprofit dedicated to political training and leadership development. When they reunited in 2023—John as Vice President for Growth and Yana bringing her tech executive experience—they discovered that their complementary expertise created a powerful formula for transformation. Their collaboration led to the realignment of ten divisions, record-breaking revenue growth, and the first clearly defined cultural strategy in the department’s history.

For twenty years, John Davis has been an organization strategy and fundraising innovator. With experience in both programs and development, John used his vision for a capital campaign called Leaders for America to change the trajectory of the Leadership Institute, a conservative leader training organization founded in 1979.
Under John's leadership, the development department at the Leadership Institute raised $50 million in 2024, nearly doubling its revenue from 2021 when he took over the Vice Presidency and increasing 614% since he first took over the Donor Communications team in 2011.
For the past four years, John has intensified his understanding of the foundations of American politics while attending the Steve and Amy Van Andel Graduate School of Government at Hillsdale College in Washington, D.C. He lives in Falls Church with his wife, Emily, eight children, and no hobbies.
A seasoned tech executive, Yana Myaskovskaya has led teams at established organizations like Salesforce and at multiple entrepreneurial software startups. After beginning her career in the nonprofit space as the youngest curator on the eastern seaboard, Yana managed revenue expansion and complex implementation management across four startups, six funding rounds, an acquisition, and a startup promotion to “unicorn” status.
In the entrepreneurial sense, Yana has seen it all and done it all, and is essentially impossible to faze—a valuable asset in organization building. She cares deeply about bringing proven business best practices to the nonprofit sector, which she had tested most recently in her role as Chief of Staff, Development at the Leadership Institute.
Mitch Nozka is a seasoned nonprofit strategist who has led donor engagement and revenue growth across a pivotal capital campaign and hundreds of direct mail campaigns while at one of the most prolific conservative training organizations in the country.
In the fundraising world, Mitch has seen what works and what flops—bringing clarity, discipline, and a refusal to chase empty trends to every organization he serves.
Mitch lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and three children, seeking faithfulness to Christ. He’s always on the quest to find the best BBQ in America.
